10-T FARMS is located in Southeast Nebraska, just north of Lincoln. Specializing in raising Registered Angus cattle and crops. The original Angus herd was started by Thomas E. Tvrdy and his eight children.
TONY TVRDY is the current owner and manager of this purebred cattle operation. He took over in 1990 and has used artificial insemination and embryo transfer to hasten improvement within the herd.
OUR PHILOSOPHY is driven by functional cattle that perform in a low-cost, low-input environment. The cattle are fed CRP grass hay and DDG's as well as corn stover until they are transferred to Brome pastures in mid to late April. The cows with bull calves are taken to a warm season grass pasture in Fairbury, Nebraska, and receive no creep feed while there. The cows stay on grass until late fall when they are moved to the corn stalks, where they remain until calving season arrives. When the stalks are depleted or covered by snow they are given CRP grass hay.
OUR TARGET CALVING PERIOD starts on March 1 and extends for 60 days. Breeding begins in late May. Our own bulls are used to cover any cows that have not been bred by mid-July. Calves are weaned in mid-September to prepare bull calves for various tests.
ALL HEIFERS are retained except for a select few that are sold at the Nebraska Cattlemen's Classic.
BULLS ARE MARKETED through the Nebraska Cattlemen's Classic, Midland Bull Test and Royal Hoofers. Some bulls may be sold via private treaty.
BULL TESTING is done to assure that we are selling bulls that will provide customers with elite performance. From the start, 10-T Farm bulls have performed at the top of these tests. At Royal Hoofers two of our bulls were in the Top Ten in a group of over 70 bulls. In the Midland Bull Test two bulls were in the top 44 in a group of over 700 bulls. This performance has been consistently high from year to year.
